Which 2 classical civilizations had the most similarities in their declines?

30 comments:

  1. The decline in classical Rome and china were the most similar. They both changed their beliefs in hopes that it would pull the civilization back together. Rome turned catholic, and china switched to Daoism. Chinas growth and prosperity decreased. The poor became poorer and worked for large landowners. This was present in both civilizations.
The problems inside the civilizations caused both civilizations to decline in size. Leading to invaders being able to easily take over the civilizations. Which eventually lead to end the civilizations of classical Rome and China.

  3. In my own personal opinion I strongly believe that the two classical civilizations that shared several similarities within reasons of decline would be both [Han] China and Rome. However, I believe there really is only one major factor for their decline. That would be their "collapse" of government- that alone contributed a lot to their cause of weakness within their people. Both central governments began to become decreasingly effective. They lost the ability to take complete charge and control over their bureaucrats. This even made it very difficult to protect themselves from the constantly bickering barbarians and other outside invaders. Another instance would be their taxes. Their taxes had severely increased- making it that much more difficult on everyone else's part, let alone the peasants. Unfortunately, these corruptions led to the decline and fall of both the Han China and Roman classical civilization.

  4. In my opinion Rome and China had the most similarities in each of their downfalls. Both had problems in their inner goverment that would later lead to problems in each civilization. They had also fallen victim to outside invaders and this lack of internal structure was not present in each of their golden ages.It had also seemed that each of their strongpoints was not present during their collapse. In Rome their superior Military and strong defense was not able to show up during the outside invasions. In China it's expansion had seemed to stop in it's tracks and both of these problems led to their demise.

  5. Rome and China probably are the two civilizations with the most civilizations because of the way the collapsed. Both civilizations had definite problems with the government.Rome's very powerful military couldn't stop the invaders in their empire. In china their major plans of expansion were destroyed because of invaders as well. This is how invaders hurt both civilizations. Also both empires had many problems with religions taking control of many groups of people which made it harder for leaders to control their citizens. This is why I think China and Rome were two most similar classical civilizations.

  6. During the declines of the three great classical civilizations, both China and Rome had the most similarities in their declines. These two classical civilization suffered from outside invasions. Rome fell directly to Germanic invaders, who fought on partly because they were,in turn, suffering by the fierce Asiatic Huns. The Huns also toppled the Chinese Han dynasty. Yet, there are other similarities that lead to the decline of both China and Rome, such as the plagues that swept over the empire. In China, the plagues' source was growing international trade, which brought diseases into southern Asia to new areas like the Mediterranean, where no resistance had established. Which the resulting diseases decreased the population in Rome. Both China and Rome had fall politically, in China the central government's control diminished, bureaucrats became more corrupt, and local landlords slacked off, ruling their neighborhoods according to their own wishes. The free peasants were heavily taxed with the new taxes and burdened with the demands of service by these same landlords. In Rome, tax collection became increasingly difficult because some villages had fled to poverty and others have died. Politically, there were growing corruption among society's leaders. The system of estates gave great political powers to the landowners and did provide some local stability, but not for long, it then weakened the power of emperor and also tended to move the economy away from the elaborate and successful trade patterns of the Mediterranean civilization. These two civilization had both similarly declined from outside invasions, the decrease of population because of deceases, politically from corruption of leaders and the powerful landowners with collecting taxes.

  8. I believe that out of all the classical civilizations, Rome and China had the most similarites in their decline. The reason that these two civilizations had the most similarites in their decline was the fact that they were both once invaded by well invaders. Another similarity between the two classical civilizations was that they both had issues with their government. This is how both civilizations began to loose control over all of their citizens.

  9. In the classical period both the decline in China and Rome were the most similar. Both of these empires, in hopes of restoring their kingdom slowly switched over to a new belief system. In Han China they converted the empire to Daoism and the Roman empire converted to chirstianity. This just caused more internal problems within each empire causing more poverty and conflicts with government. In the end, both civilizations collapsed due to outside invaders.

  11. In the classical period i believe that Rome and China had a similar decline. They both had serious problems even befor they were invaded. By 100 C.E. the Han dynasty started to fall into a nasty and serious downfall. In 180 C.E. Rome started their decline. Both Rome and China had problems with their taxes. China with their free peasants being taxed they were burdened with more. Some lost their farm and became daily labores and also sold their children in to service. Where Rome tax collection was also different. Many pf the villages had few people left and some people have fled into poverty. Also people were dieing off. Here in China you had Daoism starting to spread. Where in Rome Christianty was also starting to spread. Daoism was powerful and changed China even with Ddynastys fallin. China was able to keep hold and bring back up their civiliaztion. Where Rome unfortunately has been declining ever scienc. But both of these declining civilizations have changed how the world is for us today and if this was not to happen our world would be different.

  12. In my opinion, I believe that Rome and China had similar downfalls. Both had problems with their goverment that would lead to problems later on. They both fell to the outside invasions and their military forces wasn't present to help them. In Rome, their military and defensive strategies was not able to show up during the outside invaders. In China, the expansion of their empire had to come to a complete end when their military wasn't there to help. Due to these invasions and that the military systems for both empires wasn't able to help, those major problems led to the downfall of both empires.

  13. The two classical civilizations that were most similar would be Rome and Han China. These two civilizations were similar in that they both converted their religions in hope of a positive effect, which instead had a downfall on both empires. For example, Rome converted to christianity and Han China converted to Daoism. Christianity seemed to be the blame for the fall of the Roman Empire. Rome was successful because of wars and the claiming of territory. Although, when christianity arose in Rome, it was against the christian religion to kill and Rome basically lived in blood and glory. However, another reason why both Rome and Han China's empires fell was because of outside invasians and barbarians.

  14. The two classical civilizations that had the most in common with in declines was China (Han Dynasty) and Rome. Both of the these civilizations finally fell due to outside invasions, but before that inside problems caused a lot issues. One main problem in both of the declines was social classes the upper class gained even more power but didn’t help the economy much. The lower class tended to be higher taxed and loaded with new taxes, in China some families even had to sell their own children to keep up. Many of them left which caused a decline in population that also hurt both civilizations deeply because with less people they wouldn’t make as much money to keep a steady economy. Roman population went from a million to about 250,000.The upper class didn’t have as many babies because they were more interested with luxury and materialistic things, much like the wealthy landlords of Han China who ceased power over local neighborhoods to satisfy their need of money and control. Both civilizations’ political structures suffered commonly as well. In China strong bureaucracies became corrupt and the central governments control weakened, Rome produced a series of weak emperors, and there were constantly arguments over who was to be the next ruler, these emperors weakened the empire even further hurting their chance of revival. In end both civilizations fell to invasions the Han Dynasty of China fell to a nomadic tribe of the Huns and the Roman empire fell to Germanic invasions.

  15. I think that the two civilizations that had the same similarities duruing there decline was Han China and Rome. I think this because there goals in ruling there civilizations were very similar. They both had very strong beleifs and tried what ever they could to keep there civilizations strong and powerful. During there decline Han converted there religion to Daoism,a religion that originated in India and which competed with Budhissm in China. And Rome converted to Christianity, a religion that romans didnt care for. At the very end both civilzations collapased due to invasions from other civilizations.

  16. In my opinion the two empires that declined most similarly were Rome and China. Rome and China both declined due to a new religion. One of Rome’s big reasons for their fall was the rise of Christianity. After Christianity became the official religion of Rome the Roman morals changed. For instance Rome no longer wanted to expand any further because killing other people was against Christian beliefs. One of the reasons for Ancient China’s fall was Daoism, also a religion. Daoism affected the Chinese fall because the Daoists revolted inside the country weakening the empire. Roman and Chinese empires also both fell due to disease running through the country. Due to the Coliseum disease spread very easily in Rome and Ancient China’s population was nearly cut in half because of epidemics inside the country.

  17. Rome and Han China are the two Civilizations who declined seemed to be the same. Rome grew with an increasing population just like Han China and dramatically declined downward. A reason of this is due to invaders, but even before invaders came to Roman Empire and Han China suffered serious problems. Trading to other civilizations brought in epidemics of disease like measles which decreased the population of Rome and china from millions to thousands. In Rome, population declined and the economy failed. In China, central government became weak and overtaxed peasants got arrested. Han China and Rome both suffered brutal declines from the Nomadic Asians (Huns). Even though China’s Government was more fully progressed then Rome’s they both failed and declined.

  18. The two civilizations i think had the same similarites in their declines are china and rome. The situations that lead to the falling of both of the empires are plagues, corrpution in their goverment and invaders. Due to the plagues which were usually diseases spreaded the population of both classical cicilizations. In the civilizations the poor and the peasents had to pay taxes . And those taxes went to the support of the goverment. So if they didnt pay the taxes the goverment had to suffer. Although their goverment was very stict they still had problems. People were always ready to kill off or get rid of one ruler so the goverment was never really stable. The han dynasty in china fell to the invasions of the Huns and classical rome's civilization fell to germanic invasions.

  19. Rome and China had difficultes in their civilizations causing a similar downfall. Rome and China had invasions from the Huns which caused a lot of problems. They both suffered from serous internal problems before the invasions. Both Rome and Chinas government became corrupt, too. Tax collections raised a lot and caused people concern. Some people had to sell their children to the services for money. Some even had to sell their farms. Growing political ineffectiveness formed part of decline for Rome and China . The population declined in both civilizations. Due to trades diseases had formed known as the "Plague", it was deadly. This spread very fast. People died and this all happened at once causing a similar downfall.

  21. I believe that China and Rome had the most in common in their downfalls. Rome and China were affected by religion. In China Doaism was introduced. China fell because Doaists revloted inside the civilization. In Rome Christanity was introduced. Rome stopped expanding and killing. Killing was against Christian beliefs. This led to fall of Rome's army. As religion took over the China, expansion depleted. Rome was subjected to outside invasion. This invasion led to the downfall of Rome, due to Rome's lack of military. The final reseaon for the fall of China and Rome was disease. Disease quickly spread through these civilizations. Any one who was struck with any disease died do to the lack of medical remedies not being produced for these diseases. This was the finally piece that led to the downfall of China and Rome.

  22. I think Han China and Rome are most similar in their declines. Both civilizations were very popular for the religions they developed or made famous. China introduced Daosim, Confucianism, Shintosism, and other religions. However, eventually the Daoists revolted within the civilization, leading to the downfall of this powerful civilization. China could have continued to succeed in many more things such as their technologies and other sorts of things, but the introduction of Daosim to the civilization had greatly impacted the citizens as well as the civilization itself. Rome had a similar story related to its decline. Christianity was a religion that, at first, seemed ridiculous, and many people persecuted the Christians. However, later on in Rome Christianity became very popular. One of the most popular quotes from the Christian's guidebook, called the Holy Bible, is "Thou shalt not kill" which simplified means, don't kill. Most of the entertainment in Rome involved slaves fighting to the death or being eaten alive. Watching a man lose his life no longer was the form of entertainment that most Roman citizens enjoyed, considering the majority of them converted to Christianity. Also, some Christians quit the army to avoid killing anyone. Invasion, disease, and many other obstacles set the pathway for China and Rome's decline, but religion was the main reason for both, which is why these two civilizations' declines are the most similar out of the other civilizations we've learned about.

  23. I believe China and Rome's declines were very similar. They both were invaded. Rome's stong army couldn't overcome the invaders, just like Han China. They both had a huge growth in population, and they both developed important religions; like Han China and Buddhism and Daoism and Rome and Christianity. Christianity was another reason for the decline. Because of 'thall shall not kill', most Christians quit the army and the Roman Empires army was not as strong. Making it easier to invade. Same with China and Confusionism.

  24. There were 2 classical civilizations which had the most similarities in their declines of their empires. I believe that the two classical civilizations that shared some-what the same similarities would be both China and Rome. But there was one major cause that began their downfall. I believe their downfall began when both Rome’s and China’s government began to disintegrate. Both Rome’s and China’s government contributed a lot to their societies, but their government was also their weakness because they were too dependent on their government. I also believe their downfall began when both Rome’s and China’s government began to become increasingly less effective than usual. Since this was happening they lost control of their government and to take charge. Since they obliviously couldn’t take charge, they couldn’t even protect themselves from outside invaders. Since they couldn’t take charge or even protect themselves, they increased taxes which made it harder on the people, and since no one in the government could take charge or protect anyone from outside invasions; this made life in both societies harder to live with. From all these occurrences there are more than this that led to the downfall of both the classical civilization of Roman and China.

  25. I believe that the two classical civilizations that had a very similar decline was Han China and Rome. Religion in Han China and Rome had a very big impact on the decline of both civilizations. Han China believed in Daoism. This affected China's empire because, Daoist's promised a "golden age" but, they ended up weakening the empire. The Roman empire switched over to Christianity. Most Christians refused to go into wars because, it was against their religion to kill. Since there was a very little military Rome was very vulnerable and, eventually declined. The governements in both civilizations couldn't expand, they had devestating epidemics and, they were unable to avoid invasions. The rich became greedy but, due to the bad economy their way of life was affected. These were the contributing factors of the downfall in both Rome and Han China.

  26. i think the 2 classical civilizations that declined in similar ways was China and Rome. Both of their governments were very similar.both China and Rome changed their religous beliefs.Rome changed to christianity and china changed daoism.both civilizations were invaded and that was one of the reasons of the declines.both of the governments started to slowly fall apart.both populations increased by alot in a short period of time.when rome changed to christianity the army fell because they didnt believe in killing.

  27. rome and china are the two classical civilaizations that declined in the most similar ways in my point of view. both rome and china kept expanding their empire wich eventually lead to one of their down falls. even thought saying that rome had a very strong army thye had to have had some set backs in battles. in china the religouse belife sysstem braught down the fall of the their empire. they were both to dependant on their government. after they slowly started to fall they were becoming weaker and weaker because soon enought theyt coudnt protect them slefs from outside invaders. so in my own cocnlusion i belive the government problems started to slowly disintigrate the empiers.

  29. The Roman empire and China's Han Dynasty had the most similar fall, in comparison to the other falling classical civilizations. Both civilizations faced similar problems including disease (the plague), invasions by nomadic groups( the Huns in China and the barbarians in the western Roman empire) and many other issues. Another common problem was the weakness of the emperors that began coming into power and the government began to weaken as well. Not only did the politicians begin to weaken but also morality became less important where as pleasure grew in Rome. In China the way of Confucianism became much less practiced and what wouldve been thought of as immoral practices became common to the Chinese. Examples of this immorailty are the selling of children and the fact peasants became day laborers. Things such as this were commonly seen in the decaying governments or societies that are being spoken of above.

  30. There once was a declination during the Classical period and in that period, I believe that the two most similar were Han China and Rome. I believe they were most similar because both places because China once converted to Daosim while Rome converts to Christianity. Daoism in the fall on China gained new appeal, shifting toward a pkpular religion and adding healing practices and magic to earlier philosophical beliefs. Daoists leaders called the Yellow Turbans also promised a golden age that would be brought about by divi e magic. In Rome, Christianity spreaded all over Africa and the southeastern shores of the Mediterranean. Another example to show that their declination was similar was the invasions of both China and Rome. The Chinese were invaded by thebborderland nomads who overthre the Han dynasty outright. And there were the Germanic invasion that begun in the earnest 400's and soon became at most five percent pf the population of te empire. The last support to show that both classical periods' declination were mostly similar each other were the plagues in Rome and the spread of devastating nee epidemics which probably have killed up to half the population. While the plagues weakened a vigorous society and killed those with weak genetics. These were examples of similarity of two declination Classical period. :)
